MESSAGE ON PENTECOST SUNDAY (YR C)
Friday 3rd June 2022.
My dear people,
As we all know, everything in this world is temporary. I bring you the sad news that Fr Simeon’s time among us is coming to an end. This week, Fr Simeon was appointed the Assistant Priest to the parish of Christ the Light in Mernda. He will take up his appointment in Mernda on 29th June. I invite you to warmly thank Fr Simeon for his wonderful contributions to the life of our parish and wish him all the best for the future. Fr Joel Peart, presently at Heidelberg, has been appointed Assistant Priest here with us and he will start on 29th June 2022. There will be an opportunity to farewell Fr Simeon and the date will be announced in due course.
I would like to thank you for your prayers for my quick recovery from COVID. I came out on isolation on Tuesday. While I enjoyed the compulsory rest that isolation enabled, I must say that I was delighted to resume normal activities.
Pentecost Sunday is upon us and it is this Sunday 5th June. A reminder that we are organising a wonderful day called Ablaze Pentecost. The event will definitely be a celebration of the Holy Spirit! The day will include Mass, delicious food from the different cultures of the people in the parish and a powerful prayer rally where there will be multiple ways in which you can encounter the Holy Spirit. Kindly book via https://www.trybooking.com/BZLWC to give us an indication of attendance at the event. There is also a sign-up sheet in the gathering space to indicate what food you will bring and the number of people who will come with you. I strongly encourage you to plan your day so that you are here from 10:30 am until 3pm to partake of this wonderful opportunity to celebrate the presence of the Holy Spirit among us.
Last Sunday we welcomed Grade 6 students from St George Preca, and their families, as they celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation. Bishop Martin Ashe, the Auxiliary Bishop for the Western Region, confirmed the candidates. We continue to pray for all these younger parishioners of ours. We also thank Bishop Ashe for his generosity in confirming our parishioners.
This week, I was contacted by three architects who are going to have a look at our facilities and provide us with advice on how to proceed with plans for the future of the parish. We will be advised about whether changes can be made to our existing facilities to accommodate future needs or whether we need to find another site and start from scratch with the facilities. May I make clear the point that nothing has been decided yet. I will communicate with you at every step of this process.
May I take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Solemnity of Pentecost. Let us remember that the Holy Spirit was sent to the apostles by Our Lord to empower them to announce the Good News to all nations. Let us ensure by our words and deeds that we also do simply that.
As always, I am available for any comments, questions or questions and also feedback about the parish.
We continue turning to our patron saint, and we ask for her intercession.
St Catherine of Siena, Pray for us.
Yours sincerely in Christ,
Fr Richard Rosse PP
