MESSAGE ON THE 12TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (YR A)
Friday 23rd June 2023
My dear people,
A final reminder that following the very sad news received on 27th March that Fr John Tollan, our parish’s first Parish Priest, died, we will be celebrating a Memorial Mass for the repose of his soul at 7pm today here at the church. Bishop Martin Ashe, Auxiliary Bishop of Melbourne, will be the Principal Celebrant. Mass will be followed by a reception at the CRC Hall where we will have an opportunity to remember Fr John. Before and after the Memorial Mass tonight, and over the next few weeks, you are invited to write your condolences, memories, and thoughts of Fr John on the sheets of paper provided, and these will be collected and be made into a booklet.
Two weeks ago, we celebrated the Solemnity of Corpus Christi. I would like to thank everyone who was rostered and spent time praying in front of the Blessed Sacrament for the 24 hours Adoration. I would also like to thank those who came on the Eucharistic Procession which followed the 12pm Mass. The Church strongly encourages the Worship of the Blessed Sacrament outside Mass and she provides rites and rituals to enable us to do that. Thank you very much for answering so positively! I am particularly grateful to everyone who helped to organise the weekend; your efforts enabled us to have a wonderful time with Our Lord and Saviour.
This week we will take up the collection for Peter’s Pence, an annual collection for the Pope’s charitable fund. Through the various agencies and organisations of the Church around the world, the Holy See is aware which countries are in need of assistance. Peter’s Pence helps to support these churches in need around the world. There is an additional basket on the collection table and, as always, I invite you to give generously.
We continue turning to our patron saint and we ask for her intercession.
St Catherine of Siena, Pray for us.
Yours sincerely in Christ,
Fr Richard Rosse PP
