MESSAGE ON THE 32ND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (YR B)

Friday 8th November 2024.

My dear people,

The recruitment process to employ someone to share the role of Evangelisation Coordinator with Ann has begun. I have had a conversation with Suzette Diaz from the HR Department of the Archdiocese and an ad has been placed on their website. The link is provided here for your information and to invite people to apply: Evangelisation Coordinator – Discipleship | Melbourne Catholic

I would like to thank everyone who helped with the Encounter Evening organised by the Archdiocese of Melbourne. Held on 25th October 2024, the event brought together about 60 young people, many of whom were from our parish. It is opportune to mention that, owing to changes in the mission assignments, the brothers of the Alliance of the Holy Family International will not be able to lead our Ablaze Youth Group for the rest of the year. We thank them for their hard work this year and look forward to welcoming them back next year. It is truly humbling to see the large number of our younger parishioners gathering every Friday evening to learn more about their faith, praying and playing together and sharing a meal. Praise be Jesus!

I invite you to join me in praying for the success of the new ministry in our parish, a ministry to young adults. This new ministry will be called Ablaze Young Adults and the aim is for it to be a vibrant Catholic community for 18 to 35-year-olds, dedicated to growing together in faith, friendship, and understanding of Christ’s teachings. This will be space where young adults can come together to explore life’s questions, deepen their relationship with God, and build lasting connections rooted in Catholic values. In a world which is constantly changing, Ablaze Young Adults will offer a place of stability, reflection, and support. Through engaging discussions, prayer, and fellowship, we will strive to help our young adults become more spiritually formed, inspired by the Gospel, and guided by the teachings of the Church. Ablaze Young Adults will meet twice a month, on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month, creating a consistent space for growth, connection, and mutual support. Whether you are looking to deepen your faith, make new Catholic friends, or simply find a community where you belong, Ablaze welcomes you with open arms. Come as you are and join us on this journey of faith and friendship. We will officially launch Ablaze Young Adults on 17th November at 5pm in the church.

It is hard to believe that it has already been a year since Jim Sheedy, former Principal of St George Preca Catholic Primary School, passed away. There will be a Memorial Mass to mark the first anniversary of his passing on Wednesday 13th November at 12pm in our church. It will be another opportunity to pray for the repose of his soul and to honour his life. The school community of St George Preca Catholic Primary School, where Jim was the Principal from 2018 to 2022, will be present at the Mass and will look after the different ministries. Everyone is welcome to join us to pray for Jim.

We continue turning to our patron saint and we ask for her intercession.

St Catherine of Siena, Pray for us.

Yours sincerely in Christ,

Fr Richard Rosse PP
