MESSAGE ON THE 5TH SUNDAY OF LENT (YR C)

Friday 1st April 2022

My dear people,

The final report of our Stewardship Renewal Program will be presented to key stakeholders on Wednesday 6th April 2022. Mr Frank Schobben is waiting on the responses of several more people before he can make his final representation. I will share with you all the details of his report next weekend. There are several more thanksgiving envelopes to be collected from the gathering space.

This Sunday will be the last Sunday of the Lenten initiative. We have received positive feedback about this initiative. Both parents and children equally enjoyed the opportunity for the children to read and bring up the offerings at Mass. The Children’s Liturgy was also available at these Masses. Its success has reminded us of the importance of Children’s Liturgy at Mass and we are eager to resume this in the parish. We are inviting anyone who would like to help in this wonderful ministry to contact the parish office. We can discuss which Masses this will be offered as well as the training and resources needed. If you are interested, we will provide you with the formation for this worthwhile ministry.

Holy Week and the Easter Triduum are just two weeks away. Again, this year, Lent has flown by. I invite you to take note of the different times of the Holy Week and Easter Triduum liturgies. These details are now in the bulletin, on the website and on the doors of the church. I look forward to seeing all of you at the different liturgies.

Several weeks ago, I announced that Mary Borg, our Parish Secretary, had resigned. Mary has since accepted to continue to work part time. She will be in the office all day on Tuesday and will be looking after all enquiries about the celebration of Baptism at parish level. Baptism enquiries will now be dealt with on Tuesdays. Mary will also continue with some clerical work while she is in the office. I am very grateful to Mary for this. I am likewise very grateful to Fr Simeon, Robert and Natasha for all the fantastic work that is accomplished in the office every day.

Our novena of prayers for peace in the world, particularly in Ukraine, finished last Tuesday. I warmly thank all those who participated, in particular those parishioners who came up with the idea and those who led the prayers. There is a photo taken on the last day of the novena on our Facebook page. Although the novena has concluded, we must continue to pray for all those affected by this dreadful tragedy.

Last Wednesday, Fr Simeon and I, together with around 150 priests of the archdiocese, attended a Clergy Gathering called by Archbishop Comensoli. It was an opportunity for him to talk to us about some of his desires for the archdiocese.  It was a wonderful day and the fellowship among priests was truly welcome.

I wish all of you a blessed fifth Sunday of Lent and May God bless you.

We continue turning to our patron saint and we ask for her intercession.

St Catherine of Siena, Pray for us.

Yours sincerely in Christ,

Fr Richard Rosse PP
