MESSAGE ON THE SOLEMNITY OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE (YR C)

Friday 18th November 2022

My dear people,

Tien Tran will be ordained a deacon tomorrow, the first step towards his ordination to the priesthood. We remember Tien’s time with us in 2020 for his pastoral internship very fondly. During his time here, Tien showed us his great generosity and zeal for pastoral work. We wish Tien all the very best for tomorrow and also for his year as a transitional deacon. Tien has been appointed to Camberwell parish for his diaconate year.

Together with Suzette Diaz, I conducted interviews over the past two weeks for the position of Evangelisation Coordinator. It is hoped that I will be able to make an announcement about this next week.

This week, Fr Joel and I had a meeting with the architects and the staff of the Property and Infrastructure Office of the Archdiocese. It was a report on our meeting which we had with the architects and the Parish Leadership Team separately the previous week. The staff of the Property and Infrastructure Office is continuing to investigate other sites in the parish should we decide after the survey of our facilities that we do not have enough space here to accommodate the future needs of the parish. The architects are in the process of preparing the survey of which I spoke last week.

“Steadfast in Hope,” a retreat for young adults aged between 18 and 25 will be held from 9-11 December at Pallotti College in Millgrove. This will be a wonderful opportunity for our young adults to go to Jesus to find ‘great calm’ (Mt 18:23-27). There are flyers in the gathering space as well as more information in the bulletin with details on how to register.

There are two ministries in the parish where volunteers are needed. We need parishioners to help with flower arrangements and also with looking after the Piety Stall before and after Mass. I appeal to your generosity with these two ministries. There is more information in the bulletin about joining these ministries.

Please put in your diaries that our Christmas Carols this year will be on 18th December in the afternoon. After the vibrant success of the carols last year, it was decided to conduct it again. More details about the event will be made available in due course.

The book of Remembrance of the Departed will continue to be available in the gathering space. You are invited to add to the book only names of your deceased loved ones who have died in the last twelve months. Once the names have been included in the book, we will pray for all of them every year. Please note that there is no need to add the same names more than once. Furthermore, as is our parish custom, we will not mention names of deceased loved ones during Mass in November nor have the names in the bulletin since they are included in the Remembrance book. Envelopes for offering Mass for the Repose of the Soul of our deceased loved ones are available on the collection table.

This weekend we celebrate the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the universe. What a wonderful reminder that Our Lord is meant to be Our King. We are invited once again to allow him to rule over our minds and our hearts so that our world can be a place where his kingdom becomes present?  Happy Solemnity to you and your families.

We continue turning to our patron saint, and we ask for her intercession.

St Catherine of Siena, Pray for us.

Yours sincerely in Christ,

Fr Richard Rosse PP
