MESSAGE ON THE 29TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (YR A)

Friday 20th October 2023

My dear people,

How wonderful it is to be back! I returned home on Sunday afternoon after a wonderful holiday, which was very restful. As mentioned before, I was in England, Italy, Greece, France and Scotland. One the highlights was visiting the Parthenon in Athens. The Parthenon on Acropolis Hill was at different times, a temple, a church and served several more purposes. I was moved by the fact that for 2,500 years, people have gone there for different reasons and that it is still attracting visitors in our days.  Another highlight was the visit to my cousins in France, to experience and share in their lives for a few days.

As announced previously, Ann O’Brien has been appointed as the new Evangelisation Coordinator of the parish, starting from 26th October 2023. I look forward to working with Ann and to her contributions to the parish in her role as our Evangelisation Coordinator. As Ann starts in the role, Nimmi leaves us and her last day will be on Tuesday 24th October. We thank Nimmi for all the various ways in which she contributed to the parish in her role.

On Saturday 28th October, there will be a Fund-Raising Concert for our parish. It will be a Live Show Tribute to Elvis Presley at the Performing Arts Centre of CRC, on site here. More details available at ELVIS – Greatest Hits Tickets (123tix.com.au). The funds raised will go towards the operational costs of running our parish. With the increase in interest rates over the past several months, the costs of financing the loan for the church have increased and we need other forms of income to help with these costs. Your generosity will go a long way and is very appreciated. There is only a week left and if you have not already bought your ticket, I strongly urge you to do so.

The next meeting of the Men’s Group will be on 27th October. We will start with Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at 7pm followed by Benediction at 7:45pm. During that time, the Sacrament of Confession will be available. Fr David Cartwright will be here to help with Confessions. This will be followed by supper in the presbytery.

Year 12 exams will start next week. Let us join in prayer for all our parishioners who will be sitting for their Year 12 exams. Let us pray that the Holy Spirit will help them remember all they have learnt and that he will give them the peace they need to approach their exams in serenity.

We continue turning to our patron saint and we ask for her intercession.

St Catherine of Siena, Pray for us.

Yours sincerely in Christ,

Fr Richard Rosse PP
