Baptism Information

At St Catherine of Siena Parish, parents MUST attend the Baptism Preparation Meeting before the baptism. If possible, please arrange for someone to look after the children for the Baptism Preparation Meeting.

We encourage those who live outside our parish boundaries, to have their child baptised in their own parish community. Although non-parishioners can still be baptised at St Catherine of Siena Parish, we require them to talk to our parish priest first before submitting their application.

Baptisms are usually celebrated on the first and last SATURDAY of each month. However, this pattern usually changes at Christmas and New Year, at Easter, and at some other times of the year.

Please note the available Baptism dates for 2021.

Regarding Godparents & Christian Witness

GODPARENTS need to be:

  1. Baptised,
  2. Practising Catholics,
  3. At least 16 years of age, and
  4. Have received the Sacrament of Confirmation.

They may NOT be the parents of the child. One godparent is sufficient. Because godparents speak and act on behalf of the Catholic community, a baptised Christian from another denomination cannot be a godparent but is most welcome to act as a Christian witness (and have their name inscribed on the Baptism Certificate).

On the other hand, a person who identifies himself or herself as an atheist or declares he or she has NO RELIGION, cannot be named as a Christian Witness.

For more information, please call the Parish Office.
