THE parish is preparing to open the church for the public celebration of Mass and sacraments within the requirement mandated by the government in terms of social distancing and our ability to minimise the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
However, due to the number of baptisms already scheduled since the start of the restrictions, the parish is not accepting new baptism enrollments in the meantime.
We will announce via this website and the parish's other social media platforms the date when we are starting to accept new enrollments.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING!
At St Catherine of Siena Parish, parents MUST attend the Baptism Preparation Meeting AND a Presentation of the Child to the community prior to the baptism. Godparents are strongly encouraged to attend the preparation meeting and the presentation as well. If possible, please arrange for someone to look after the children for the Baptism Preparation Meeting.
We encourage those who live outside our parish boundaries, to have their child baptised in their own parish community. Although non-parishioners can still be baptised at St Catherine of Siena Parish, we require them to talk to our parish priest first before submitting their application.
Baptisms are usually celebrated after the 10.30am Sunday Mass (at approximately 11.50am) on the first and last SUNDAY of each month. However, this pattern usually changes at Christmas, New Year, Easter, and some other times of the year.
GODPARENTS need to be:
- Practising Catholics,
- At least 16 years of age, and
- Have received the Sacrament of Confirmation.
They may NOT be the parents of the child. One godparent is sufficient. Because godparents speak and act on behalf of the Catholic community, a baptised Christian from another denomination cannot be a godparent, but is most welcome to act as a Christian witness (and have their name inscribed on the Baptism Certificate).
